We Were Once Lovers
by Nancy Hidalgo
We're no longer lovers
Glad we remained friends
The transition from lover to friend
Feels like a friendly divorce
We were once soul mates
Our love is still strong as friends
But having you close to me
Only wants to bring out the animal in me
How can we keep it platonic
If we have seen each other naked
There is more than meets the eye
It's what the heart feels
What the body craves
Loving you is like having
A ticket to happiness
If I redeem it?
Would you come back to me again?
Better off as friends
Better off with other people
This way if we get hurt
We still have each other
To comfort one another
In what we once knew
As lovers
